The Challenge

Why is it so hard to learn how world-class financial management really works? And why do so many people find business accountancy boring? Many of us remain unsure about some of the most fundamental issues, such as:

  • What was the underlying cause of the disasters at Barings, Enron, Parmalat and Northern Rock?

The challenge that faced the Amplifying Intuition team was therefore to find a completely new way of explaining the underlying structure of a business.

Instead of expecting readers to deal with static financial schedules and conventional tabulations, we decided to involve trainees right from the outset in running a dynamic and fast-changing enterprise.

Instead of textbooks and lectures, we decided to immerse people in the vivid reality of day-today business decisions, to enable them to take their own decisions and learn from their own experiences.

But how could that be achieved in practice for millions of business students right across the world?
